We now know that cold plunges in females may not live to what they're hyped to be.

What the science says to date:

  • Mood & alertness benefits are supported in short-term studies.

  • Limited evidence for muscle recovery, fat loss, or immunity support, especially in women.

  • Effects can be short-lived; context matters.

Should you wish to take the plunge.

Start safe: 10-15°C (50-59° F) for most women. Beginners can even try ~ 20°C.

Cold enough for benefits, not so cold it adds stress!
