There is currently no universal cure for endometriosis. Most treatment approaches aim to:
Suppress oestrogen activity
Reduce inflammation
Manage pain
Improve quality of life
If I'm living with endometriosis, what are my current options? They include:
Combined oral contraceptives
Progestin-only therapies
GnRH analogues (in selected cases)
Surgical excision by experienced specialists
Surgery can reduce pain in many women...but recurrence is possible.
Hormonal suppression can help symptoms...but doesn't "remove" disease. Research is ongoing in:
Immune-modulating therapies
Non-hormonal treatments
Earlier diagnostic tools
We are making progress but there is still a gap in early diagnosis, research funding, and individualised care.
