Oestrogen in your skincare... innovation or overreach?

Topical estrogen creams are trending for skin elasticity, collagen support, and "reversing" menopausal skin changes.

And yes, oestrogen does play a role in skin thickness and hydration.

But here's where nuance matters:

  • How much is absorbed systemically?

  • Is it regulated as cosmetic or hormonal therapy?

  • Who should avoid it (history of hormone-sensitive cancers, clotting risk, etc.)?

  • Are we medicalising ageing or supporting skin health safely?

Low-dose topical vaginal oestrogen is well-studied. Facial oestrogen creams? The data is far thinner.

So, before jumping in, ask:

Is this evidence-based dermatology or clever marketing riding the hormone wave?

Would you use it?
